Giverny.



Visiting Giverny, the country home outside Paris where Monet spent his final years, was almost a religious experience for me. Walking through the gardens and around the pond, eyes more than a little moist, it was easy to see how such inspired work could originate from this place. Even in late autumn, the grounds were exploding with dazzling blooms, seemingly endowed with perpetual spring.

I might have stayed there forever, but Paris called...
